@Rudi Nice! I'm pre-preparing my list of sins for 2010!

@Claudiu Thank you! I agree that it would be nice if customer experience was high up in the list of priorities - I find it strange when it's not. Web Analytics is not abstract - without visitors/customers, it all becomes a bit pointless.

Great article Emer,

I believe the web analytics is not for us to make more money but for our visitors to be happy in their experience with our websites. Happy visitors are more likely to become super customers, so in the end everybody wins.

So yes, good bye sheep, hello people. :)

In order for the business of web anlaytics and the many professions that go with it to continue to thrive, it needs to evolve at the same rate.

As far as email sins go, that's pretty small. I use the handy gmail feature http://www.rudishumpert.com/2009/08/22/nearly-limitless-email-address-variations-with-one-gmail-account/ here to create multiple emails and then auto filter them out .

Hi Rudi,

You could be right and it's not really an issue that web analytics remains the little brother, but it is if it stays the same "age" while the older sibling grows.
AND I just remembered another sin (as a result of committing it 5 minutes ago) which is more related to email marketing. I use "Mark as Spam" as the quick "Unsubscribe". I think Santa will have to put me on the Naughty list this year!

You bring up some interesting points here.

I like the analogy of web analytics being a baby/toddler, but I think it goes further than that. I think that web analytics is more like the younger sibling of the internet itself, and will always be tagging (no pun intended) along and trying to keep up with everything that the older sibling is doing.

3 years ago no one had heard of twitter, and no one cared. Now it's all the rage with millions of people using it and with that all the #measure folks are trying to track it and analyze it.

With the way that users interact with the internet always evolving, I'm not sure that web analytics will ever be able to stop being the little brother.
